Thank you so much for this post Dean. I started looking into indoor gardening and hanging bottle gardens but am afraid it's a little too complicated for me. I have two brown thumbs and don't know much about gardening so I was looking for a good beginner's project that was simple and wouldn't require a lot of investment in time or money. I think I can do you the five (or six) bottle for starters and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your demo video and for sharing your idea.

As algae needs sunlight to grow, perhaps if the big bottle was dark brown or green it could be better algae resistant. Or you could try painting it with black or other dark colors from outside for the same purpose.
Anyway, I love the look of those, and will totally need to make some. I'm thinking it'll look really cool with strawberries too.

What a shame with your nice tomatoes. I saw a nifty system of staking container tomatoes recently with 3 or 4 stakes in a pot, then with string tied round the stakes creating circular support at intervals of about 10" up the stake length. Perhaps you've seen it, too.

But great blog! Thank you! I love your idea of the hanging bottle garden, where bottles are suspended one over the other. I am looking for the directions to this project? I'm in Tampa, FL, and think I could grow some lettuces on my screened patio this way (in my garden, I find the bugs usually eat more than I do).

Hi, it was pretty simple, picked up a 100 ltr water barrel from the store added a small tap on the line and drip post in each pot.
the secret is to keep the barrel as high as you can above the planters, thats where the yellow pages came in handy LOL, now all i do is turn on tap for 5 mins in the morning and all the watering is done, maybe ill do a video on it.
